Best of Botanicals Exhibition

I’m very pleased to share that one of my photographs has been accepted for the Best of Botanicals exhibition opening on May 22 at PHOTO, a fine art photography gallery in Oakland, California. The national juried exhibition will benefit the San Francisco Botanical Garden. It will be on display until July 12, so if you’re in the San Francisco/Oakland area I’m totally jealous! I hope you’ll visit the gallery and tell me all about the beautiful botanical imagery.

Insta-Artist Exhibit

insta_blog

Today, I’m excited to share that one of my photographs was accepted in the Insta-Artist exhibit currently on display at the Annmarie Sculpture Garden & Arts Center in Dowell, Maryland. The exhibit features 142 amazing digital photographs — all taken and edited with smart phone apps — and I am honored to have this shot included in the show. The exhibit was juried by Ryan Hill of the Smithsonian Institute’s Hirshhorn Museum and will be on display through June 1 in the Annmarie main gallery. I haven’t been able to travel to see it, but if you’re in the Maryland area, the Annmarie Center looks amazing. You can view all the exhibit photos online in this Facebook Album. Prepare to say Wow!

Happy Tuesday!

Are you an Instagram-er? I am too! The wildly popular photo sharing service is a super-fun way to show off images on the go and share daily experiences in a visual way — something I can always get behind. I recently came across another cool service that allows you to turn your Instagram photos into magnets, and I decided to give it a try!

StickyGram is an online service that interfaces directly with Instagram and allows you to get a set of nine 2 x 2″ magnets from your favorite photos. The process is really easy. You simply login at StickyGram.com with your Instagram account information, choose your photos and order. I’m thinking choosing some photos of my kiddos would be a pretty fun gift for a grandmother on Mother’s Day!

field trip . Cotton District No. 2

A few Fridays ago I took another field trip to the Cotton District in Starkville. There is so much to explore there and I have been interested in finding architectural elements lately. I was also interested in framing some images that were distinctly Southern in flavor. I took my last trip through the new urbanist development in late winter before the lush greenery was really in bloom. This time, you could almost drink the pure growth in some places. [And my apologies to the owner of the properties on which I probably trespassed. Oops.]

field trip . Cotton District

I’ve been experimenting a little more lately with taking photographs, and I wanted to try out some photoshop “actions” I found from Paint The Moon. Last Friday I took a little field trip (as I sometimes do) to the Cotton District area of Starkville to get some detail shots. The actions just give the photos a slight shift in lighting that gave the rainy day shots a little more depth. I thought I’d share.
