letters to my daughter 051018 . I Can’t Wait

We’re in single digits on days until school is out, and this morning, we decided we liked it better to say “9 days until we kick off the Summer Jar!” The kids are excited – as most kids are – to be nearing the end of school and schedules and homework and getting up for class. But, I was realizing last night how much I’m excited too. I can’t wait.

I can’t wait to take us off the clock with some much needed free time and free thinking and free fun. I can’t wait to spend another summer soaking up these three amazing little souls in my life. I know we’ll have our share of quarrels and “I’m bored” days and juggling of freelance projects with summer plans, but these days are so precious.

The Summer Jar has been our little summer tradition the last few years (read about the beginning), aimed at finding joy and fun in small experiences. And taking advantage of this fleeting season of summers all together. For the past few months, we’ve been jotting down ideas that come and dropping them in the jar on our shelf in the living room. They’ve all decided we need to retrace some of our Mississippi road trips from last year, and add some others. We’ve added museum visits and libraries and restaurants and various games. It may be more than we can do in the few short weeks of one summer, but we’re going to give it our best effort. And, I can’t wait!
