Best of Botanicals Exhibition

I’m very pleased to share that one of my photographs has been accepted for the Best of Botanicals exhibition opening on May 22 at PHOTO, a fine art photography gallery in Oakland, California. The national juried exhibition will benefit the San Francisco Botanical Garden. It will be on display until July 12, so if you’re in the San Francisco/Oakland area I’m totally jealous! I hope you’ll visit the gallery and tell me all about the beautiful botanical imagery.

Insta-Artist Exhibit

insta_blog

Today, I’m excited to share that one of my photographs was accepted in the Insta-Artist exhibit currently on display at the Annmarie Sculpture Garden & Arts Center in Dowell, Maryland. The exhibit features 142 amazing digital photographs — all taken and edited with smart phone apps — and I am honored to have this shot included in the show. The exhibit was juried by Ryan Hill of the Smithsonian Institute’s Hirshhorn Museum and will be on display through June 1 in the Annmarie main gallery. I haven’t been able to travel to see it, but if you’re in the Maryland area, the Annmarie Center looks amazing. You can view all the exhibit photos online in this Facebook Album. Prepare to say Wow!

Happy Tuesday!

Farm Days

Friday is here, and we’re all getting excited. Today, we’re heading back to the farm for the week of spring break. We haven’t been there since Thanksgiving, and I’m looking forward to seeing the changing light and landscape, and hopefully a little Spring in bloom. I was looking back at a few photos from our last visit. I hope I can share some of the same views next week!

signs . Memphis, TN No. 2

Last night, I was looking back through some photos from our trip to Memphis last October. I love looking at signs — hand-painted and otherwise. I’m fascinated by how they impact the view of places attached to the sides of buildings and structures. Today I thought I would share some of the ones I photographed during our walks and trolley rides Downtown.

We’ve had a few milder Spring-like days this week — the typical January indecisiveness of Mississippi weather. It’s been fun to go out without coats, but we are anticipating the return of the cold tonight. Below-freezing temps had me thinking back to some icy walks we took during our Thanksgiving farm trip, and some photos I never shared. What began as an alert that “there’s GLASS on the road!!” ended with some chilly fun looking at the patterns water makes as it freezes. (And of course, the sound it makes as we break it!)  Winter has its own frosty beauty, even for those of us in the Deep South. Happy Wednesday!
