client work . 2014 Savor Our South

savor14_watercolor2

Today, I’m excited to share a recent client project completed for the Starkville Convention & Visitors Bureau. Each year, the organization promotes a spring even series called Savor Our South. I’ve had the privilege of designing the campaign since its inception. This year’s poster is one I actually created for the 2013 campaign and re-worked this year with new colors. For the design, I had fun with some watercolor painting to give it a vibrant feel! If you’re in Starkville this spring, I hope you’ll join us for some of these great events!

New Art Prints for Little Girls

pretty_pink600

I’m excited to share these sweet new prints I’m adding to the Print Shop today! During my holiday dreaming, I decided I wanted to incorporate more of my personal illustration work into pieces for the Etsy shop using some of my sketch journal entries and hand-drawn words. I’ve added a few new pieces of equipment to my office “tech” to allow me to print with great quality and color permanence, and I hope you like the results as I start sharing more of the pieces. I’ve had a goal for the last few years to incorporate more illustration into my daily work. It’s exciting to see some of the work come together.

You may have noticed from some of the sketch journal entries that I’ve been inspired by patterns and doily-type shapes recently. The sweet shapes fit so nicely with this sentiment we’ve probably all heard from our grandmothers… Pretty is as pretty does. I’ve created the design in pink, yellow and lavender color ways, and I’m excited to add one to my own Baby Girl’s decor. I hope you enjoy!

Sticks and Bars

craffiti_abc1

Well, 2014 is in full swing now, and I’m very excited about some of the things coming up for Small Pond Graphics. I have some client campaigns I’m working on this month that I’m looking forward to sharing. I’m working on some new block print cards and art prints for the re-imagined print shop. Plus, several Valentine-oriented stamps sets are being produced by Craffiti Direct. I’m excited to share those when they are available on the website!

In December, Craffiti Direct added several more of my illustrated designs to the Small Pond Graphics line of their clear cling stamps. I got my samples in last week, and I’m starting to experiment with projects to share! Today I’m particularly excited about THIS set… You may remember this sketch journal entry I shared back in March I dubbed the “sticks and bars” alphabet. In the Fall, I modified it (in “solid” form) to create a stamp set you can use to create and stamp your own words and messages. It’s been pretty cool to see one of my hand-drawn alphabets translated into a tangible product! Happy Weekend!

Thank It Forward

FB_thankitforward

In July, Small Pond Graphics celebrated its 3-year birthday! Diving into my own freelance design business was an unexpected opportunity in 2010, but God has used it to provide so many new creative outlets, business connections and much daily joy for me and my family. I’m honored to include so many of YOU among the blessings I’ve received through this Small Pond adventure.

In the last three years, Small Pond Graphics has served a collection of clients seeking boutique creative services. I’ve been drawing and posting and writing and designing and thinking and tweeting — and even getting back to my “maker” roots with The Frog Kisser etsy shop. And I’ve had fun doing it all!

I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to collaborate with so many to bring great ideas to fruition. Since gratitude is a feast best shared, I spent much of the summer creating a special collection of hand-crafted “thank you” gifts for as many of you as I could afford 🙂 The gifts were a set of hand-printed journals and thank you notes to help you THANK IT FORWARD — over 500 print runs block-printed by hand for 36 packages! A labor of love.

As an extension of my THANK IT FORWARD idea, this summer I also began planning for a new monthly ezine called AQUA that I envisioned as a creative journal used as a way to stay in touch with friends and colleagues. And, I wanted to have an outlet to periodically share my gratitude by giving little pieces of creativity back to those who have supported Small Pond Graphics. So, every issue of AQUA will include a couple of free designs in downloadable form for subscribers to enjoy for their marketing efforts or personal celebrations.

I launched the first issue of AQUA yesterday, and I’m very excited about it! It includes an update on some of my creative inspiration as well as a fun little gift tag printable I’ll share later here. It also includes a printable thank you notecard exclusively for AQUA subscribers. I’d love to have you join the mailing list!

I learn more each day that gratitude is an essential life model, and these last three years of Small Pond Graphics have taught me it’s a pretty good business model as well. I’m eager to test that theory by taking the opportunity to give more celebration tools to those who have given such support to me. I hope that as you find YOURSELF grateful, these gifts will help you take note of it and pass along your thankful heart to other.

THANK IT FORWARD.

Watercolor Word Paintings

I’m excited to share some of the new things from my Etsy shop! If you’ve been following Plop! lately, you’ve probably noticed that I’ve been incorporating painting into my sketch journal process. Watercolor has been my painting medium of choice since I was in college, and lately I’ve enjoyed getting back into it — pairing it with some of the hand-drawn lettering that’s captured my interest. I’ve been working on a few watercolor “word paintings,” and I’ve decided to add my first prints to The Frog Kisser shop — available as 8 x 10″ and 11 x 14″! Here are a few I’m starting with. I hope you enjoy taking a look!
