New Art Prints for Little Girls

pretty_pink600

I’m excited to share these sweet new prints I’m adding to the Print Shop today! During my holiday dreaming, I decided I wanted to incorporate more of my personal illustration work into pieces for the Etsy shop using some of my sketch journal entries and hand-drawn words. I’ve added a few new pieces of equipment to my office “tech” to allow me to print with great quality and color permanence, and I hope you like the results as I start sharing more of the pieces. I’ve had a goal for the last few years to incorporate more illustration into my daily work. It’s exciting to see some of the work come together.

You may have noticed from some of the sketch journal entries that I’ve been inspired by patterns and doily-type shapes recently. The sweet shapes fit so nicely with this sentiment we’ve probably all heard from our grandmothers… Pretty is as pretty does. I’ve created the design in pink, yellow and lavender color ways, and I’m excited to add one to my own Baby Girl’s decor. I hope you enjoy!

photo essay . In Full Bloom

camellia1

I love the clarity of the light this time of year. Sunny afternoons so often produce such saturated color. The Sasanqua Camellia on the corner of our house is in full bloom now. Back in the spring, I wrestled with it (in some gravity-defying ladder acrobatics) to prune down branches that were above the roof. Now those limbs are filled with pink blossoms in varies stages of exposing their yellow centers. Even the spent and wind-blown petals on the walk surrounding the trunk seem alive with fuchsia and hot pink. Enjoy a glimpse, and I hope your Monday is filled with bloom…

field trip . Magnolias

Earlier this week I took a little field trip to the Mississippi State University campus. There are some beautiful and sweet-smelling Magnolia varieties in the center of campus that simply burst in Spring. Even though it’s only early February, we’ve had enough mild Mississippi weather that the varieties are already in full bloom. I thought I’d share a few of the images. We’re expecting a hard freeze this weekend, so these petals will distract me from the cold. Hope you enjoy!
